Ok, back to my veteran researchers who have conducted live interviews, how do you enjoy the process of recruiting and coordinating the interviews with the respondents? I’d take a wild guess and say it’s probably not the favorite part of your job. Think of all these hours you waste per project doing these mundane tasks.
In case you never quantified it yourself, our research shows that the average researcher waste 32 hours per project when it comes to the recruitment of sample and the coordination of the interviews. The average researcher completes between 3 projects per month, which means many researchers spend about 100 hours per month on these tasks.
Most researchers want to spend their time doing exactly what their job title entails, research. They want to be able to spend more time collecting data (interviewing respondents) and analyzing the data to gain insights. They want to spend more time doing the things they are passionate about and the things that got them into research in the first place. They don’t want to have to waste 32 hours per project just to get to the place where they feel the study is actually starting.
You may have noticed I keep using the word “wasted” in terms of when it comes to the time that is spent recruiting and coordinating. You may think that I’m using this word incorrectly because to you, the 32 hours is not a waste of time, it’s a “not fun but a necessary part of your job” because you believe it’s the only way to conduct live interview studies.
If you believe this, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you’re wrong. Now for me to play the role of bearer of amazing news, you’re wrong because spending 32 hours a project on recruitment and the coordination of interviews is not a “necessary” part of your job ANYMORE.
